Tree preservation order

A tree preservation order (TPO) protects specific trees or groups of trees. Cutting, uprooting or damaging a protected tree without consent can be an offence.

Trees in conservation areas also have notification requirements even without a TPO. Check with the council before works near trees.

TPO-style protections exist across the UK under each nation’s planning and forestry rules.
