Editorial policy

How we research, source, review and correct Home Builders content. Last reviewed 27 October 2026.

Sourcing

We base guidance on primary and official sources wherever possible — GOV.UK, devolved government sites, the Planning Portal, legislation, Approved Documents / building standards and council publications — and we link to them. Where we use industry data, such as cost benchmarks, we name and link the source, and we label figures we could not match to a single published source as indicative.

Accuracy and review

Every guide shows a publication date and a last-reviewed date. We review guides when rules change and at least periodically, and update the last-reviewed date when we do. Nations and region hubs show a checked date for the official links on that page.

Use of AI tools

Some articles are drafted with the help of AI writing tools. Every AI-assisted draft is checked by a person against the cited sources for accuracy before publication, and we do not publish invented statistics, quotes or people.

Corrections

If you spot an error, please tell us using the contact form. We correct factual errors promptly and record significant corrections in our corrections log.

Independence from advertisers

Home Builders is funded by builders who advertise with us. Advertisers do not see, approve or influence our guides, and paying to advertise does not buy a mention or a recommendation. Listing is not an endorsement. We ask every builder who advertises with us to provide proof of current public liability insurance before they are listed. Always check each builder’s insurance, references, written quote and trade body membership yourself before work starts.

Not professional advice

Our content is general information, not legal, planning or structural advice. See our terms of use.
