Regularisation certificate

A regularisation certificate is a Building Control approval sought for work that was already carried out without the required Building Regulations application. The building control body inspects what it can and may ask for opening-up works.

It is discretionary; not all unauthorised work can be regularised.

Similar late-approval routes exist under other nations’ building standards systems.
