Conservation area
A conservation area is a locality designated for its special architectural or historic interest. Extra planning controls usually apply to demolition, trees and some alterations that would otherwise be permitted development.
Before changing the outside of a building in a conservation area, check with the local planning authority.
Scotland (HES), Wales (Cadw) and Northern Ireland (HED) each designate and manage conservation areas under their own legislation.
