Building Control

Building Control checks that building work meets the Building Regulations for structure, fire, energy, access and other standards. You can use local authority building control or a registered building control approver.

You normally submit a building notice or full plans before work starts, and inspections follow at key stages.

Scotland uses a building warrant and building standards. Wales and Northern Ireland have their own Building Regulations frameworks.

Official source: Building Regulations approval (GOV.UK). Checked 27 October 2026.
