Approved Document B
Approved Document B gives guidance on fire safety (Part B) for dwellings and other buildings in England, including means of escape, fire spread and access for the fire service. Loft conversions and multi-storey alterations often trigger extra fire-safety measures.
It is guidance on ways to meet the regulations, not the only possible method.
Fire-safety technical guidance is nation-specific; use the handbook or approved document for the site’s nation.
